Committee Descriptions

There are many opportunities available to volunteers. A list of Committees, including a brief job description, are listed below. All jobs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis so please be sure to apply early


Committee FULL - ACCESS CONTROL/CREDENTIALS (1a)(3): Work with the Corporate Hospitality Committee to greet and verify proper credentials of individuals entering various restricted areas.

ADMISSIONS/WILL CALL (1a): Sell and issue daily tickets; manage Will Call function; check tickets/credentials at admission gate. Welcome spectators, provide general information and distribute daily pairing guides.

ADULT STANDARD BEARERS: Setup standards with Golfers Name’s for each tee time group; verify that junior standard bearer has necessary numbers and at end of round strip down standards to prepare for next day's rounds. On golf course, ensure that standard bearer is on 1st & 10th tees for their assigned tee time and upon completion of nine holes to see if they need any numbers and ensure that they are able to complete back 9

Committee FULL - CADDIE HOSPITALITY (1a)(1b): Responsible for caddie registration; preparation, distribution, and collection of caddie bibs. Volunteers on this committee will not serve as caddies during the Championship.

Committee FULL - COMMUNICATIONS (1a): Operate a communications network monitoring all Championship activities. This committee is responsible for the daily set-up and distribution of radios and cell phones.

Committee FULL - CORPORATE HOSPITALITY: Act as liaison and host to corporate clients in various hospitality areas.

Committee FULL - COURSE EVACUATION (3): In the event of severe weather and upon direction from the USGA, assist in the execution of the course evacuation plan for players, caddies, and other designees.

DISABILITY SERVICES (1a)(3): Provide disabled spectators transportation to and from designated parking area and designated viewing area. Assist with distribution of complimentary scooter carts.

ECOLOGY (3): Ensure all refuse is picked up regularly in all areas.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL: Assist in procurement of emergency medical vendor. Provide basic first aid service for players, volunteers, and spectators.

Committee FULL - FINANCE (2): Assist with managing financial operations during Championship Week. Delivery and pickup of money from select areas. Reconcile all monies. Volunteers should have cash handling skills.

Committee FULL - GOLF CARTS (1a)(1b): Control inventory and distribution of golf carts to authorized personnel.

Committee FULL - MARSHALS (3): Enforce crowd control during play, ensuring the players’ safe and easy access from hole to hole. Manage crosswalk ropes to facilitate spectator movement between groups.

MERCHANDISE TENT: Assist with various functions inside Merchandise Tent: cashiers, baggers, stockers, greeters, customer service. Staff “Check Tent” for spectators to leave parcels purchased in Merchandise Tent.

Committee FULL - OFFICE ADMINISTRATION: Assist with clerical work, phones, various public relations and sales initiatives, and greeting visitors to the Championship Office. Volunteers begin working in advance of the Championship.

Committee FULL - ON COURSE SUPPLY (1a)(3): Set up, stock, and replenish coolers with refreshments on tee boxes, practice facilities, and wherever USGA requests. Heavy lifting is required.

PARKING (1a)(3): Monitor all parking areas.

Committee FULL - PRACTICE FACILITY (1a)(1b)(3): Manage and control operation of driving range, short game area, and putting green. Distribute practice balls to players. Identify players on the range with name placards.

PROGRAM SALES & PAIRING GUIDE DISTRIBUTION (3): Manage Junior Volunteers selling programs. Arrange for program delivery to hospitality venues. Distribute daily pairing guides to designated stations.

SCOREBOARD (3): Update pairings and start times on Practice Round Boards. Post hole-by-hole scores on Public Boards during Championship rounds. Receive and display up-to-date leaders’ scores, in relation to par, on Monster Board. Manually post information received via handheld computer on Leaderboards and Thru-Boards. May have to climb ladders and work on elevated platforms.

Committee FULL - SCORECARD VERIFICATION: Confirm statistics corroborate score on scorecard.

Committee FULL - SIGNAGE (3): Assist with the installation of the necessary signage around the course and surrounding areas. Assist with the take down of signage the day of and day following the tournament. Work on this committee is physically demanding. Most of the work is done pre-championship.

TRANSPORTATION (1a)(1b)(2): Receive, inventory, and coordinate distribution and return of players’ courtesy vehicles. Greet USGA officials and designated guests at the airport, driving them to and from their respective accommodations, and shuttling them to and from the golf course. Must be 25 years or older as of July 1, 2012 and have a valid driver’s license.

Committee FULL - VOLUNTEER HEADQUARTERS (1a): Responsible for the operation of the volunteer hospitality tent during Championship Week.

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION: Set up off-site area for training, distribution of volunteer packets, and uniform exchanges. Assist with uniform sales/exchanges at Volunteer Party and Volunteer Headquarters.

Committee FULL - VOLUNTEER PARTY: Staff, manage, and coordinate the volunteer appreciation party.

Committee FULL - WALKING SCORERS (3): Record accurate hole-by-hole scores and statistics for each player in group, transmitting this information to Scoring Central via handheld computer. Must have a working knowledge of the USGA rules of golf. Must be able to walk 18 holes at a steady pace regardless of weather conditions.

Committee FULL - WELCOME INFORMATION/LOST AND FOUND/TECH CHECK: Welcome spectators. Provide general information and daily pairing guides. Oversee lost and found articles. Provide camera and cell phone check-in.
